[wp-testers] WordPress pre-release file types

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but is there a reason that
the pre-release versions of wordpress come as .zip files instead of the
.tar.gz files used for the Gold releases?  I only ask because it makes
it so I can't use my update script against the zip file 'cause it's been
written to use the other format.
