If you are inserting as plain text, like this:

<code><?php some code ?></code>

Then yeah, it'll probably be stripped; try this:

<code>&lt;?php some code ?&rt;</code>

If escaping your own code as you write doesn't tickle your fancy, try
out this plugin:
