My  bet  is that the new approach to uploads will only deem suitable as  a
plug-in.  The  extension of the current UI as to accommodate  renaming  --
likewise.   A  quick  way  to  correct  filename  might  be  PHP-Shell   <
http://mgeisler.net/php-shell/  > or perhaps the file managers offered  by
your Web host, if not FTP.

If  you post this proposed modification to Trac, I'd definitely back it as
something  that could and should go into the core, despite the  resistance
to allow things like hidden options and advanced settings of all sorts.
