[wp-testers] Permalinks problem...

Can anyone advise how I can achieve the following:

I want my post's permalinks and category permalinks to look the same
General category: http://mydomain.com/news/general
Example post: http://mydomain.com/news/general/example-post

The above example needs the category base to be blank which doens't
seem possible.

Or I would like the site to be structured as follows:
General category: http://mydomain.com/tag/news/general
Example post: http://mydomain.com/tag/news/general/example-post

This requires that the category base is "/tag" and the permalink
structure is "/tag/%category%/%postname%/ which doesn't work either

Any help??
