Thanks, I knew that this attribute was not valid for xhtml strict. Tell me if I'm wrong, I think it is OK for transitional.
However, some of my clients really don't care about validity and would rather open their links in a blank target.

Just letting you know, the target attribute isn't valid XHTML, so it's best not to use it at all, unless you really don't care. :P
