I would be happy to manage the list and indemnify automattic. I agree that the list is a very useful consortium of professionals and I have hired several people from this list and would hire more. Because I am registered here, I never planned on registering anywhere else. What process do you have where by I could manage the listserv for you, and thus save time. Basically we would publish a list of rules and from these rules I would manage the users experience.
I really don't mind doing this for free. I am sure there are many that feel the same.

Agreed, Jane, please chime in. If we the users want it, let us have it.

Jane - the WP-Pro mailing list would welcome your views please.
The vast majority here would like it to stay, and no discussion has been made within the community of your recent decision.

Hmm, I think the Easy Car Seat man had a point -- why not buildout the WPCOOP thing to be a buddypress site with job boards obviously, and have job postings auto-send to the google group email??
hell, with all the traffic from developers, The Deck Network would probably dish out serious money for adspace.
Just sayin'.
p.s. Dan -- I hear a lot of Ruby on Rails programmers are knee deep in HTML5...

Add me to the list of people who would be disappointed if this list
were to die a quick, yet untimely, death.
I don't consider myself a WP Pro, as I've mainly only generated themes
from existing layouts (something I'm expecting to change once the
demands of clients and a full time job ease up.) But even lurking has
been a good thing.
With 22 years of software development, I've seen plenty of things
change. It would be nice if the loss of this list wasn't an
additional one.
