[wp-pro] Need diagnosis/fix for failed time out WP/PHP glitch crashing server.

Hi.

A pretty experienced and competent WP coder could not find the cause of
this, so I'm looking for someone at a high level of expertise and hopefully
some experience with this type of issue.

My wp site has had several customized plug ins made, but even when those are
disabled the glitch is there. Scoreboard shows some connections to random
pages don't time out, and the seconds keep building to hours. the number of
failed time outs gradually builds until the server crashes. My coder
created an hourly cron job for httpd restart, but it has still crashed at
times (maybe even in one hour sometimes they build up too much, or maybe the
cron sometimes fails
).
This may or may not be related, but yesterday the server somehow switched to
read only, creating lots of errors. Hostgator It may have started to crash
due to failed time outs and partly recovered. hostgator had to transfer
server to a liveCD and fix home partition. My concern though is fixing the
failed time outs.

Again, this happens even when all plug ins are deacticvated. we cannot find
a cause. I am hoping to find someone who is confident they can determine the
cause and correct it. My site gets 12,000 visitors a day, and I really need
to get it stable. it has been crashing every couple of days.
If you think you can help and are willing,
thanks much!
