I was concerned about it too, and asked Luc
Saint-Elie, apparent owner of the fr_FR translation :
he isn't involved.

The "French (_country_)" should be official, I think,
and therefore I wonder about the "French" one (which,
as of this morning, hadn't been updated since
mid-december of '04 - in the mean time someone made
some changes. Makes me think that Rosetta lacks a
proprer versionning system, even wiki-like - or am I
missing something?).

That "French" _could_ be used as a basis for all
others, but they could (probably) upload the existing
1.2 PO and start from there. fr_BE, fr_CA (no QC?) and
fr_CH have been recently started, and looking at the
numbers it looks like they started from a blank slate
instead of building upon the 1.2 PO.

Without any information from the Devs, I think we
should wait for notices about SVN accounts and such,
and build teams for the time being.

I must add, because of the seemingly lack of version
control on Rosetta, I find it to be not as useful as I
would have hoped. So I repeat : am I missing something
? Can only admins access these ?

For my part, I am more than willing to take part in
the fr_FR effort, and build upon what I did for WP1.2
([fr] mais en mieux ;) ). I am perusing through the
O'Reilly Subversion book between one task and RSIGuard
:)

Sorry for the rushed ideas, I have to be at my
father's birthday :)
