The reason for the inconsistent spacing is that the first example above 
is used on a webpage, the second in an e-mail.  In the e-mails the 
colons have varying amounts of spaces before them, so that they line 
up.  This assumes, of course, that people's e-mail clients are set to 
use a monospaced font for plain text messages.  Mine isn't -- so the 
spacing looks even messier.  Maybe forget the alignment and use no 
spaces before the colon in the e-mails?  Would cut down on different 
text strings.
