Thanks Mika. Been having this discussion recently, and came to the 
conclusion that "email address" is best practise for a username.

Users can remember it, it saves having to create "another" unique 
identifer (email address should be unique anyway), and provides for a 
quicker "sign-up" process.

The down side - of course - being that email addresses change (hence the 
question above). Quite sure there will be people on both sides of the 
fence on this one.
