I tried NetBeans before PhpStorm was released. It was lethargic, buggy and relative light on features.  I tried the beta of PhpStorm before version 1.0 was even released and I switched immediately, and never looked back. Now it's on 4.0 versions in fewer years, and it is light years better than NetBeans.

Considering how much I've leveraged PhpStorm for income, the amount I paid for it is probably the best value per dollar I've ever spent on software in 20+ years.  Period.
