[wp-hackers] Looking for a project

I'm doing a project for school that involves contributing to open source and
I'm looking for something that needs doing.  I've been looking through trac
but It's not always easy to see what is at what point, for example, many
tickets at:
http://core.trac.wordpress.org/report/16 Needs Patch
seem to already have patches.

Does anyone have any suggestions for largish projects I could work on?
