Just addressing this point. This is not entirely true, however I
understand why you'd think so. Changing a DNS takes about an hour or
so, possibly more depending on your TTL setting.

I wrote a couple articles on this a while back. Here's one:

The trick is that the "48-hour" you're describing really only applies
to changing your nameservers. If you're just editing DNS entries, then
your TTL setting determines the delay there.
