This kind of statement is usually an indicator that it would be good 
plugin territory. There are many developers running local copies of WP, 
and many using IDEs, so maybe they can chime in with how they approach 
the issue you're encountering, but a plugin targeted at developers using 
a setup like yours would probably be greatly appreciated by the community.
