[wp-hackers] Plugin i18n

Someone sent me translations for a couple of my plugins. I have  
the .po and .mo files and would like to test it, but didn't find much  
information in the codex about plugin localization (except a link to a  
blog post that is 5 years old). Do I have to define WP_LANG in my  
config file to test it? Do i need to store the translations in a  
special folder with in my plugin or anything like that?
