[wp-hackers] Seeking WordPress Ajax Advice

I am about to embark on my first  foray into Ajax and am looking for some
pointers about doing this within the context of WordPress.  What I want to
do is present a list to a user, let them reorder it using drag and drop, and
then store the new list order back in the database.  Should be pretty simple
- the widget side bar does this - it is just new to me.

 

So as a newbie in this area, are there any recommendations I should follow?
Does anyone have a simple example they can point me to?
