[wp-hackers] TinyMCE stripping name tag out of PRE elements

Good evening list,

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, as I am new to this list
this week but interested in contributing to WordPress. I'd like to
start my contribution by addressing the issues that have effected me
during the creation and set up of my blog using WordPress. I have had
a look round the developer documentation on the WordPress site and I
did not see a how to get started guide so I thought I would start with
a suggested change.

What is the procedure for submitting changes to the TinyMCE editor?
I'm a fan of the google syntax highlighter library
(http://code.google.com/p/syntaxhighlighter/) and use it on my blog
but I've noticed that TinyMCE is stripping the name tag out of the PRE
elements that are used to identify the code for the highlighter
library. After a bit of searching around the internet I came across
the following suggested fix, which involves editing the Tags TinyMCE
is stripping:
     http://ellisweb.net/2008/08/using-syntaxhighlighter-to-format-code-in-wordpress/
I'd like to know if this sort of fix would be considered acceptable
thing to resolve (it does not have to be the solution used in the
article) to roll into the main code base or not?

Cheers,

Daniel
