I think the client-side-database is potentially way too early for
implementation. HTML5 is still in super-early-draft phase (the spec
actually changed yesterday for crying out loud), and it's uncertain
whether or not it will even get any real traction given that XHTML2 is
far more mature at this point. The fact that WebKit implemented it
doesn't change that the specification is still in major flux.

Gears, on the other hand, is out there now and working. And if the
code is abstracted enough, it could be switched to some other storage
system later, when it's more finalized.
