I agree with this entirely, which is why I was saying that the
conversation was more than a little pointless. Coding Standards, as
such, have no right or wrong way. Just "the way" as it is defined by
the standard.

But that doesn't mean that the standard must be a rigid unbending
rule. If there's a good reason to break from the standard in a
particular case, then the standard should be broken for that
particular case.

A rule that doesn't bend for circumstances is worthless.
