Oh, I know, I'm just whining that my stats were split into two (United we
stand, divided my email addresses fall :D)...

Outlook 12 is from Office 2007. Try it out - it's public beta and it's
awesome.

Sorry about that, thanks for pointing it out. So - why is the first half
case-sensitive anyway? I mean, I don't know a single email protocol that
differentiates between them - under any circumstances.

while that may be true for the stats, etc. sendmail handles "addresspart" @ "domainpart" the same way as "AddressPart" @ "DomainPart" - so what's the difference ?  

It's also worth noting that it's pretty embarrassing that as an MCSP I don't even know what Outlook 12.x is.

Uh, actually, if you check the specs, ComputerGuru at NeoSmart.net == ComputerGuru at neosmart.net

The username portion of an e-mail is case sensitive, the domain name is not.
