[wp-hackers] How many use older WP versions?

I think it would be a good idea for the request to "leave the version  
# for stats" to be removed, as well as removing the version # from  
the HTML output by WP by default. Showing this information makes  
versions with security vulnerabilities "easy pickins" for those who  
want to do damage.

I'd suggest adding a config option or a text file hidden pref for  
displaying this information or not (like PunBB and other web apps  
do), but we all know how Matt responded to my last such suggestion. ;)
