If you want to make your case, then please comment to
http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/17640. I'll point MT to the ticket.
I'm sure he'd have no problem revisiting it if there's a better monospaced
font stack to be had.

(NB. By design decision, I meant systems design, not style itself.)
