Now, last time I did this (month or so ago) a shit-storm ensued.  And
frankly, I don't recall what the verdict was after all the poo settled.

What's the policy on breaking urls at user's request in old help posts?

Me?  I see it as harmless, but I remember some strident posts on the other
side of the coin.
