btw I also had an interesting experience with http://www.wikitaxi.org
- unfortunately Windows only, but shows nicely what is possible.

the tools are already there, if you have mediawiki and php on the
server...

if you provide some dumps the other part of the work could be done by
people interested in transforming the dumps into any decent format for
offline viewing. Would be great to have the codex dumps downloadable
or even better rsyncable, that´s not too much of an effort, is it?
