As you approach 1000px, the human eye's ability to follow horizontal 
lines (eg text) starts to degrade significantly. We could also keep in 
mind the 'F' eye scan pattern - which means that anything on the left 
side will have more prominence than centre or left.

Much easier to scan - which is what virtually every visitor will do as 
opposed to actually reading. All the real user stuff is on the left too 
- which should help.

A little concerned that the links at the very top are going to get 
missed because of the text on the left. Would it be worth bringing them 
down below the text and ordering left-to-right in order of potential 
usefulness?
