[wp-docs] WP Groups

I knew there were a couple of WordPress Groups out there, but not over 100 
different groups around the world. Wow.  Carthik has authorized me to write 
a synopsis about these groups for the Codex, and I think that after it is 
written, those with the "power" to put things on blogs which end up spread 
all over the place, should think about promoting these groups.  They are a 
powerful tool that WordPress needs.

So, to write the little article about the groups, I need information about 
the groups.  Anyone belong to one?  Familiar with one?  Attended a meeting? 
I need to know some stuff:

1. When was the first one formed, why, and where.
2. Have there been any articles or stories written about these groups?
3. How are the international groups doing?
4. Is there thought of an international annual or bi annual meetings of 
these different groups?
5. Other than discussion and WordPress projects and support, are there any 
benefits to joining these groups?
6. Which is the oldest?  Which has the most active members? Other highlights 
about these groups?
7. Other than using meetup.com to stay in touch, how else to they stay in 
touch with members?
8. Do they have guest speakers or just social time when they get together?

for the article.  Any little unique or fun tidbit that would make this a 
little more interesting would help.
