Comment:

 Actually it should not. `1 translation were added` is grammatically
 incorrect.

 If you are confused by the variable, in English `%s translation was added`
 will only be used if `$added == 1` so the resulting output would be `1
 translation was added` (vs. your suggested change of `1 translation were
 added`).

 The reason there is a variable even in the singular is to allow
 translators to use the variable in their translated singular (for example
 Russian, where the singular translation is also used for numbers like 21,
 31, etc.).
