 I am testing with BP r8985 and WP r29475.

 If you are still reproducing the problem with another setup, I encourage
 you to continue your debugging by looking here
 https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/src/bp-groups/bp-
 groups-classes.php#L849 to see if you can identify the root cause.
