@karmatosed Wow! Seems a lot of thought and work has gone into these.
 Thanks!

I do have a bone or two to pick with the members directory, though.
 The suggested format
 http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/4952/memberdirectory.png
seems to be not very helpful and a grand waste of space.

There are 4 items per member:
 - Profile photo thumbnail
 - username
 - time since last login (I assume that's what you mean by "Since logged
 in")
 - "Add friend" button

From a user perspective, these bits of information are not very helpful
(don't provide any good sense of the member), with the exception of the
profile photo thumbnail (who cares if hnla was last logged in 5 mts ago, 4
hours ago or 2 days ago?). Unfortunately, because there's not much
information in the box, so the thumbnail is kept small, in order to
 minimize real-estate waste.

So what would be good pieces of information? (things that would help the
"average" user in understanding more about the members and making a
 "friending" or clicking decision)

Well, that depends! On the type of community. Hence #4126

But there are a couple of things that could be useful for *most*
 communities:
 - larger profile photo
 - name/screen-name instead of username

What I recommend is a format where there is a large (between 150px x 150px
and 200px x 200px) profile picture. Display name is above the image, along
with an "online now" indicator (small circle that turns green when online,
grey when offline). Add friend/ Friend request button is below the photo.
And any additional info/fields are overlayed on a semitransparent layer
 that appears on hover.

This way, space is used quite efficiently. It is quite the trend, courtesy
of Pinterest, myspace, Tumblr, Windows 8, etc. And because it doesn't have
wide, rigid boxes, so it can easily be responsive.
