 Ahh, I see. I was missing the part where forums were being set up as "an
 existing bbPress installation". D'oh.

 Now that I see what's going on, I think I agree with you r-a-y that this
 is an issue with the bbPress template loop and not so much BuddyPress. The
 instructions you give on the codex page are succinct and clear. Maybe this
 ticket can be filed as invalid?
