Comment:

 Tried this on 1.3 rev-3523. Problem doesn't occur anymore.

 Made sure I activated the Twenty Ten theme before I used the BP setup
 wizard.

 Selected bp-default during the theme setup and after completing the
 wizard, bp-default was set as the theme.
